Diets for the New Year

What’s Going Around – Diets for the New Year

The holidays are over. Time to diet. Numerous options abound – Keto and others are popular. But do they work? The resounding answer is… sort of. All popular diets are based on reducing the amount of processed food and sugar filling the typical American plate. The Keto Diet is currently popular, probably because high levels of fat in the diet reduces cravings caused by lower sugar intake. But twelve month results do not stand out from the others. Short term weight loss is significant, though. And nothing motivates you like results.

A U.S. News panel of experts recently named the Mediterranean Diet as the “best for 2020”. It focuses on plant based foods, healthier oils, and leaner meat. It was deemed best for long term health and reduced risk of diabetes and heart disease. If you need a plan outlined for you, this seems like the one to follow. But long term commitment is crucial.

Thought for the day: If you’re looking for a diet with benefits that stick, the Mediterranean might be the pick.
